In the early SW fanzine days (late 70s) there was a very vicious war over who was really the main character/hero of the movie, Han or Luke. By the time I discovered fanzines around 1980 or so, after The Empire Strikes Back came out, it had mostly calmed down, but you could still see the metaphorical bombed-out cities and dead bodies strewn everywhere.
