bluespock:

To all the gatekeeping white guys out there:

James T. Kirk is not your Everyman. He’s not your own self-insert male power fantasy. He’s not your generic heterosexual protagonist who’s “too cool to care” about the rules and regulations that come with his high-risk/high-responsibility job. He’s not your depthless heroic leading man who sees women as commodities and kills his enemies without a second thought.

James T. Kirk is the embodiment of optimism for the future. He’s proof that if people could be a bit kinder, a bit softer, a bit more careful with how they treat others, that the world may one day end up churning out a man like him. He’s been through horrible, unspeakable things in his life, and he survived through it all to become the well-rounded, multi-layered, compassionate character you refuse to actually see and understand. He isn’t someone who acts on impulse due to a lack of care or regard for consequences—in fact, that couldn’t be further form the truth. When he does act on impulse, it’s because he cares too much. He wears his heart on his sleeve, and he isn’t afraid to show the ones he loves that he really is with them till the ends of the universe. That’s a promise to them that he could never break, because he is—above all else—a man of his own word.

James T. Kirk wasn’t designed to be relatable. He was designed to be inspirational.

The Simple Feeling and Beyond – Kirk and Spock’s Place in Queer History
-Vrai Kaiser

The modern understanding of queerness and fandom, in all its myriad forms and complexities, owes the lion’s share of thanks to James T. Kirk and Spock. They were the genesis of the phrase “slash fiction” (that’s romantic fanfic between same gendered characters, for those of you who are very sheltered), were featured in zines that formed the basis of modern communal fanfiction and fanart sharing, and were some of the only intimately close male characters not to get paired off with paper-thin female love interests out of panic. Though of course, the last one might’ve been because Gene Roddenberry was fully on board with implying that they were queer.

Sorry, should I maybe explain that a little more?

People have been dissecting the subtext embedded in Star Trek for decades now, from Henry Jenkins (who was more or less the pioneer in writing about fandom from an academic perspective) all the way to web series like The Ship’s Closet. That is its own brand of important, since reinterpreting media to create space for the unseen has been one of the few recourses of marginalized voices for many years. But those fine individuals are too often dismissed as delusional or ridiculous, “projecting things that aren’t there” (or “recognizing things that I do not personally relate to my life experiences and therefore it isn’t a thing). So instead, let’s focus on the proponents of queerness behind the scenes.

So I've always imagined the th'y'la bond to work in a way that its an open path between the two minds, so one could peer into the others thoughts if the path isn't closed. So imagine one day Spock is busy working on something in the science labs(1/2)

imagine-jim-bones-and-spock Answer:

(cont) and Jim peers into his mind from their room and sees Spock’s thoughts and how quickly he’s able to solve things and piece information together and Jim finds Spock’s intellect and seeing him work insanely hot and Jim starts thinking naughty and let’s just say Spock gets distracted by Jim’s thoughts and heads back to him and he makes sure that next time he needs something to really get done that he keeps an eye on Jim so he doesn’t get distracted again lol

imagine jim having one of those days where theres a song stuck in his head and for the life of him, he can’t get it out

so he leans over to spock and mentions off hand that he’s got a song in his head

spock leans over, eyes blood shot, hand gripping the table, and hisses ‘I KNOW

diftor-heh-snusnu:

OR HOW ABOUT: Kirk has a song stuck in his head, in that broken, dreamlike, nonlinear way that humans do. Spock pauses beside him momentarily and suddenly the music swells in all-pervading, sweet precision, the mind’s whole memory of the piece at once, somehow, like a great strummed chord. And when it extinguishes, it’s done, for now, for real.

& the song isn’t stuck in Kirk’s head anymore. just a clean and easy silence, and a smile and a thump on the back for Spock probably.

i wish someone could do this for me this is great mind link vulcan bonds spirk kirk spock
