Bones risks himself to save Jim, but in the process loses his leg. He's got to stay in a wheelchair for awhile, but he hates how everyone looks at him like a pity case - except for Jim. Jim will throw himself into Bones' lap and command him (playfully) to wheel them to the mess for lunch. It makes Bones smile at how Jim will do everything he can to make someone happy, feel safe, included, and feel loved. If he grabs Jim from time to time to pull him down and tickle him to tears, no one minds.
