okay hear me out. i could just imagine this one situation where spock needs to beam down on a seemingly dangerous case and jim had to stay aboard for reasons. jim is a bit mad at him and he tries to reason with spock but no means no, “the ship needs you here,” blah blah and they stare at each other for a while. then spock just calmly fixes jim’s crooked glasses and yeah

Kirk and McCoy are five sometimes, I swear.
“I want popcorn,” McCoy said suddenly.
The young woman looked up at him from underneath very pertly slanted brows and said calmly, “No eating in the auditorium, sir. Next?”
They headed into the auditorium. Spock was looking bemused: McCoy was grinning. “You cut it out,” Jim said. “Just for that, you’re not getting the aisle seat.”
“Spoilsport.”
and
Jim was mildly surprised to see that to his other rank tags and decorations, McCoy had added a small, understated IDIC. “If I didn’t know you better,” he said, “I’d think you were going native. When did you get that?”
“Today in the gift shop, when you were looking at the snowball paperweights with Mount Seleya in them. Tackiest things I ever saw.”
“Yes,” Spock said; “they were imported from Earth.”
“You be quiet. We cant let these people leave the Federation, Jim. At least not until they teach us how to make tasteful souvenirs.”
Jim groaned.
Also this is just great.
“I have to admit,” [Jim] said, “I wish I could be a little fly on the wall when you have your talk with T’Pring.”
Spock looked at him oddly. “Why,” he said, “would you desire to be a fly? And specifically a small one?”
Jim laughed. “You know perfectly well what I mean.”
Spock looked at Jim sidelong, and allowed himself the smallest smile. “More often than I used to,” he said, “yes. Good night, Jim.”
“’Night, Spock.”

Oh the universe out there is frightful
But starfleet is so delightful
And since there’s millions of aliens to know
boldly go, boldly go, boldly go.
