an idea: kirk starting a one-sided vocabulary battle with spock to annoy him (a la pinto interviews) and spock publicly pretending to ignore him but privately skimming his federation standard thesaurus before their chess games
Kirk: I just want you to know, there are worlds out there, safe in the sky because of him. That there are people living in the light and singing songs of the Vulcan Spock, a thousand, million light years away. They will never forget him, while he can never remember. And for one moment…one shining moment…he was the most important man in the whole wide universe.
