Star Trek: where Spock stares at Jim’s lips for like the third time in one film.
I read this as one-third of the film, and nodded sagely.

Spock: Jim made me feel things.
Sarek: What things?
Spock: Feelings.
Sarek: He made you feel feelings?
Spock: Yeah.
Sarek: What a bitch.

I think this is a big moment for Spock’s character development (and S1 space husbands). His reaction to the cave-in seems to take him by surprise. I don’t think he realizes how much he cares about Kirk until this happens—no alien poison or intoxicant or magnetic field forcing him to lose his cool this time; he’s got no one to blame but himself.
Since starting this blog I’ve developed Feelings about the fact that Spock goes straight to “Jim.” Not “Kirk,” not “James.” (Kirk goes by both for other characters in the series, so there’d be precedent.) Spock always uses either the most formal option possible, or the most intimate. He’s split and sorting through a lot of confusion about what his relationship is to this person, and I like that you can see that happening in way he struggles to label and categorize Kirk. It seems very in-character to me.
Also, I like that this scene is a double-rescue—Kirk interrupts Spock just as he starts to get emotional. He knows that Spock would ultimately regret tipping his hand, so he stops him before he does. It’s enough to know he was going to.
You guys, this episode is really good.
YES! This is actually my favorite episode, thank you!

Note: Splitting this story into two posts, no one panic, also further note this fic is R-18, it gets a little smutty, enjoy!
